DECEMBER'S HERE!

A reminder we are inviting students to participate in the entire advent season by

attending Hope Center’s main worship service on Sunday mornings.  This will last through the entire month of December and we will be kicking off our Sunday program again in January.

To start out our month we are inviting the entire community of Hope Center to join us for our regular pancake Sunday on 12/7 between 1st & 2nd services from 10:15 am~10:45 am.  At that time we will also have our Youth Shack open for some great holiday gift buying opportunities.  

Students are also encouraged to be a part of the Main Service by volunteering in several areas of worship including being a greeter in the lobby before services, reading scripture, help with communion on 12/7, being part of the prayer team, or helping on the tech or lighting team.

IMPACT'S NEW WINTER 2014 CALENDAR!

Hey Impact Parents!

Fall is here and cold days, holidays and 2015 are right around the corner!  What an exciting time of the year and an exciting season of ministering to students!! 

Last year we ran an experiment by canceling our youth ministries worship service on Sunday morning during the advent season (December).  As a result we were able to experience the blessing of worship God and waiting for Christmas together, as the extended family of God.  I’m excited to announce that we are going to do the same again this year. 

I know this may be difficult for some students and families because it’s just not what we’re use to.  However, we feel that it is important to be together at certain points during the year and we want students to be both experienced and comfortable with the larger worshiping community at Hope Center. 

I’d like to encourage you to encourage your son or daughter to join us for this year’s Advent Celebration.  Some may be tempted to sleep in, avoiding “church” because the youth program isn’t running.  While I understand that temptation, I Hope that you will consider the potential benefits of participation.   Worshiping with both your nuclear family and your church family is a blessing to God and the larger community.  Creating opportunities for students to be exposed to the adult worship service helps them make transitions out of youth ministries later in life.  This is an important opportunity that I pray you will all take advantage of! 

On another note; on Saturday, November 22^nd, Impact will be serving at Creekside Community Church in Alamo collecting boxes for Operation Christmas Child! We are excited to participate in bringing Christmas and the Gospel to children around the world. 

We are always so grateful for the students we work with and how we get to see God at work in their lives.  We are also grateful to you, their parents, who work so diligently to care for them and disciple them.  Thank you for letting us play a role in your family!

Reminder to all Junior High Parents!

If you have not done it yet, PLEASE don't forget to fill out your Junior High students new 2014 -2015 year long permission slip.  You should have received a copy with the fall calendar we sent in July, but if you need a copy click here.  (Reminder: Both parents need to sign the permission slip unless only one parent has custody.)

All previous 2013 - 2014  permission slips will expire today 9/30/14.  

The new permission slip is good for all "off-campus" IMPACT events (unless otherwise specified) that occur between 06/01/2014 - 9/30/2015.  

This form does not automatically register your student for every activity sponsored by IMPACT.

EXCITING NEWS FOR YOUTH MINISTRIES

Dear Hope Center Families,

We hope that you are all excited and settling in as we transition from Summer to Fall!  We are really looking forward to another great year working with our students.  As we make this transition, we want to inform you of a wonderful new opportunity that we have for youth ministries at Hope Center.  As many of you know, Katie Falgien has been working part time with high school ministries for the last year.  As of September first, we are excited to say that she will be starting full time in a roll supporting both junior high and high school ministries!  Hear from Katie in her own words:

Hi Parents and Students!

 It is hard to believe that almost a year ago I sat down to write to you about my changing role in Lighthouse. I am beyond excited to share what God has been doing in me and called me to. I’m trading in my Peet’s apron and have accepted a full-time position at Hope Center as the Director of Student Ministries! I really could not be more excited to continue to build relationships with high school and middle school students. During a year that was initially marked by transition, God has done amazing things in the lives of students and leaders alike. I feel so lucky and privileged to serve the students, your families and alongside the other staff and volunteers.My role will primarily be with Lighthouse. I will continue to coordinate the Sunday morning youth service, be involved on Wednesday small groups and planning special events (e.g. Lighthouse Fall Retreat! Sign-up before 9/7 to get the early-bird price of $100). I will also be supporting Impact with event/service project coordination, curriculum and anything else the team may need. Above all I get to devote more time to our students!I feel so privileged to serve the students, your families and the church. Please don’t hesitate to contact me anytime.

4 more days to go...The Famine is almost here:

Here are a couple last minute details:

• Breakfast: Students are encouraged to wake up & have a healthy breakfast between 7 am ~ 9 am Saturday morning, Feb. 22nd.
• Service Projects:  IMPACT will meet at Hope Center at 11:00 am to begin their service project  that will take them out to pick up cans where the students have dropped off the flyers to their neighbors, then back to the church to count their haul for recycling (between 12 ~ 2 pm).
• Activities: Between 2 pm ~ 5 pm they will play calm games in the generations room. When the High School group joins @ 5 pm they will be decorating 30 Hour famine t-shirts.
• Bring For Saturday Night: Fundraising money, $10 for participating in 30 Hour Famine, Bible, notebook, pen, overnight bag, sleeping bag.    Saturday night they'll be time for worship, devotional/quiet time, more games, and possibly a movie to end the night before lights out.
• In the morning: Students will be woken up and encouraged to be ready to attend church at 9 am with their parents.  Ian Longtin will be preaching this Sunday.  (REMINDER - no youth service the last Sunday of the month but there is Station 56 for the 6th graders).  Then at 1 pm we will have our "Break-the-fast" Celebration Feast.

DON'T FORGET to RSVP to the youthassistant@hopecenter.cc by this Wed., February 19th if you & your family will be joining us for our "Break-the-Fast" Celebration Feast on Sunday at 1 pm in the Generations Room.

Parents if you are interested in helping prepare the meal for the students please contact Ministry Team Leader for Lighthouse Katie Falgien at klfalgien@gmail.com as soon as possible, we'll provide the food we just need help preparing it on Sunday. Impact is experiencing a taste of hunger

while raising money for Hungry Children through

on Saturday, February 22nd to Sunday, February 23rd. Impact students will be meeting @ Hope Center @ 11am to participate in a can drive, but our fast officially begins at 7am. 

 

We are encouraging our students to wake up &

have a healthy breakfast between 7am & 9am. 

The point of the fast for our students, especially Junior Highers

is to experience hunger while they raise awareness in themselves

and their communities for World Hunger. 

There will be juices available at the church and light foods

for students that find this too difficult. 

 

Unique to Impact students is that we will be doing a can drive

in our neighborhoods & church to raise money for World Vision. 

There are flyers for students to hand out to their neighbors

(as we will be driving around to pick up cans on Sat., Feb. 22nd).

 

 

 

We Have A Goal of 1,000 Cans!

 

 

Please ask your family & friends to begin saving their cans now!

You can bring these crushed cans to the Impact Can Drive barrel in the Generations Room on any Wednesday or Sunday between now & Feb. 22nd.
